Music Therapy Class
Our students receive music weekly in their classroom. Mrs. Margie our music therapist has been with Leeway School for over 20 years, and is certified in music education as well as special education. During music time, the children will learn new songs and play various instruments, while learning to attend, to listen, follow adult directives, and to share and take turns with their peers.
Vocal songs are used to foster vocal play and expressive (spoken) language skills. Movement activities are used to elicit auditory attention to sound and understanding of the meaning of words and concepts. Instrument playing is used to heighten attention to and discrimination of sounds and sound qualities such as stop/go, loud/soft, patterning, fast/slow and others.
