Margie's Music Therapy Page
Helloooo Leeway! Welcome to the Music Therapy
Remote Play page.
First thing up I want to say is take a look at the Leeway Preschool123 Youtube site! And when you do, it's all about the PLAYLISTS AND NOT THE VIDEO TAB. What's good about it is that the playlists are organized by GOAL AREA!

There are language-based music therapy songs
movement activities,
freeze dances

calming songs

all in one place. I'll post a few lists
Here so you can get a sample!

HIDE AND GO CELL PHONE
Set good song or silly sound effect as the ring tone on your cell phone. Tell your child to hide their eyes with their hands, or a hat, perhaps a blanket, if they want to peek. (And they will!)
Hide your cell phone. Have the child help you count. When they finish, call your cell with a different phone. Listen and search, and play it all over again. Why is this a brain game? It uses the listening skills of auditory attention and localization. Localization is the brain's process of finding a sound that you can't see. Counting is good to reinforce skills. You can also have them describe with language or gestures such as pointing or nodding where they found it. Keep it fun and have a good time.
Our students receive music weekly in their classroom. Mrs. Margie our music therapist has been with Leeway School for over 20 years, and is certified in music education as well as special education. During music time, the children will learn new songs and play various instruments, while learning to attend, to listen, follow adult directives, and to share and take turns with their peers.
Vocal songs are used to foster vocal play and expressive (spoken) language skills. Movement activities are used to elicit auditory attention to sound and understanding of the meaning of words and concepts. Instrument playing is used to heighten attention to and discrimination of sounds and sound qualities such as stop/go, loud/soft, patterning, fast/slow and others.
